1. About cookies
A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to store and return on subsequent requests. Some cookies are essential to the operation of a website; others are used to measure audiences or to track activity across different websites, and are subject to different legal requirements. Equivalent technologies used by embedded media players, including local storage, are treated in the same way throughout this policy.
2. Categories used on this website
2.1 Strictly necessary
Two cookies fall within this category, neither of which is used for measurement or tracking. The first records your response to the cookie notice so that it persists between pages and visits; a refusal must itself be remembered in order to be honoured. The second authenticates administrators to the private management console and is not set for ordinary visitors. These cookies do not require consent.
2.2 Audience measurement
Google Analytics provides aggregate reporting on readership and traffic sources. It sets cookies with a lifetime of up to two years. This category is disabled unless you consent to it.
2.3 Media players
Video and podcast players embedded from YouTube and Spotify constitute third-party content operating within our pages, and store information accordingly. Until consent is given, these players are not loaded; a placeholder is displayed in their place, together with an option to load an individual player without altering your saved preferences. Video is embedded through youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which does not set advertising cookies; Google nonetheless receives your IP address once a player has been loaded.

4. Measurement carried out without cookies
The Company maintains its own record of pages opened and controls selected. This record uses no cookie and no browser storage of any kind. Each visit is labeled with a one-way cryptographic hash of the visitor’s IP address, browser user-agent string and the current date, with the consequence that the label changes at midnight UTC and cannot be reversed to recover an IP address. As nothing is stored in your browser, this processing requires no consent and there is nothing for you to clear.
It is described here because a policy that enumerated cookies while omitting equivalent measurement carried out by other means would be incomplete. The Privacy Policy sets out the method and the legal basis in full.
5. Managing your preferences
Your preferences may be reviewed and changed at any time. Withdrawing consent is as straightforward as granting it and is available in the same place.
Disabling a category prevents any further loading of the relevant technology. Cookies already set by a third party are held by that third party and cannot be removed by us; they may be cleared from your browser’s privacy settings, where clearing site data for this website removes all such cookies. Google also publishes a browser add-on for opting out of Google Analytics.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Browsers may transmit a “Do Not Track” signal. As no common standard for interpreting that signal was established, we do not represent that we respond to it. Global Privacy Control communicates a request not to have personal information sold or shared; as stated in the Privacy Policy, we do neither, and in any event no non-essential category is enabled on this site until consent is given.
